Give Yourself Permission To Rest, Have Fun, And Renew

Why Regeneration is Essential for Your Well-Being

Hey there!

How are you?

Today, we’re going to explore the third area of the CARE FrameworkRegeneration.

It’s all about rest, recharging, fun, play, stress prevention, resilience building, and “composting” to be able to renew.

When I think about Regeneration, I imagine us softening into a space of joy, relaxation, and pleasure, letting go of everything to allow for refreshment and renewal.

Before softening further into Regeneration, I want to invite you to my upcoming free workshop. We’ll take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate everything we’ve accomplished so far and then bring in some openness, curiosity, and creativity as we regenerate our energy and motivation for the months ahead.

It’s happening on September 18 on Zoom at 6:30PM CEST (12PM EST). Learn more and register here: The Regenerative Vision Workshop.

PS

This is going to be my first workshop hosted in English, so if you want to come to cheer me on, you’ll be very welcome!

Giving Ourselves Permission

The unlearning, dismantling, and rebuilding work we do in Alignment makes it possible for us to engage in Regeneration.

Sadly, in fact, the capitalism-centered society we live in taught us that we are worthy only when we are productive, when we “optimize” and “maximize”, and when we are serving that system of oppression.

However, it’s crystal clear how this benefits that system and not us, how our individual and collective well-being gets crashed, and how Regeneration, care, and self-care are instead needed to survive and thrive.

Regeneration makes it possible for us to live fulfilling, joyful lives. Also, it gives us the energy to actualize our vision, have an impact, and make a positive contribution to our communities and the earth.

In this space, we allow ourselves to do what we need to recharge and feel good and what we enjoy to have fun, get pleasure, and experience joy.

Following the seed metaphor, Regeneration is the stage in which we start emerging and sprouting. We are in Spring, growing out the soil with new green leaves and restored capacity and wisdom, going as slow or as fast as we need.

Regenerate The Way You Like

Regeneration can take many shapes depending on the person, their context, and the time in life.

It can be basic, essential self-care —good sleep, hydration, and nourishment.

It can be about acknowledging and following our rhythms instead of those society imposes.

It can be about reconnecting with the earth, its rhythms, sounds, colors, smells, and textures.

It can be about having rituals and practices that sustain us.

It can be engaging in activities that soothe us or stimulate us.

The people I talked with while developing the Framework mentioned the more disparate things, ranging from creative activities to body-based practices to contemplative activities to outdoor activities to nurturing moments of connection with human and non-human beings.

One thing is certain: they all told me about at least two regenerative activities they usually engage with and how they are essential to their well-being and overall effectiveness.

Regenerative Impact features weekly explorations about what it means to be an entrepreneur or leader who cares to make an impact and wants to do it while feeling good and not burning out in the process.

My Relationship With Regeneration

I believe all four areas of the CARE Framework are critical, but I must admit that Regeneration may be the one I am most fond of.

That’s because I tended to neglect it, along with most of my body’s messages, unless they were loud enough for me to stop and notice.

I started prioritizing my self-care and my moments of fun and joy after I was on the brink of burnout and finally noticed my body aching, my mood plummeting, and my mind not being able to think or find words.

It had been so easy not to see the signals and so hard to recover afterward. So, when I got my energy and capacity back, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and started exploring, studying, and caring about (self)care and giving ourselves permission to tend to our needs.

Since then, my work has touched on different topics, too, but they always had the idea of well-being at their core, and well-being, to me, is not possible without prioritizing Regeneration.

Our impactful actions and the actualization of our powerful vision and contribution support our well-being, too. We’ll explore that next week when we discover the last area of the framework —Engagement.

Are You Making Room For Regeneration?

Meanwhile, I invite you to reflect on your relationship with rest, relaxation, and pleasurable activities:

  • How do you foster Regeneration these days?

  • Is there anything that you’d love to do more of to support this area?

  • Is there anything you’d love to do less to support this area?

If you feel like it, share your reflections in the comments!

With care,
Giada
