Have you brought your shovel? πŸ™‚

This week’s exercise will help you connect with your values even more.

If you’re new here, hello and welcome! This is part 3 of the Values Series, in which I share my coaching practice’s values and give you one exercise a week to create or update yours.

Work through parts 1 and 2, and then come back here!

Care to Impact Value #3

Before getting to the exercise, I’m going to share the third Care to Impact value with you.

Nature
We are nature, and nature guides us. We embrace her rhythms and cycles and commit to learning from her, respecting her, and protecting her.

Craft Your Values – Exercise #3

Step 1

Take the values you listed in Exercise #1 and explore why each one matters so much to you.

For each value, ask yourself, “Why does it matter to me?” or “Why do I care about this?”. Use the wording the resonates the most with you.

Step 2

Once you’re done, ask yourself, “Why?” again. Try doing that a couple of times until you feel you got to the core why of that value.

If you’re struggling, check the stories and experiences you recalled and wrote down last week doing Exercise #2.

Step 3

Read the reasons you listed for each value and notice how they make you feel. Do they make you feel more connected to that value? Do they motivate you to honor it?

If yes β€”yay!β€” you’re done. If not, it’s probably worth digging deeper with some more whys.

My why for today’s value

I believe industrialism and capitalism severed our connection to nature, which has been detrimental to the well-being of humans, fellow non-humans, and the whole earth.

They made us engage in exploitative and extractive behaviors and lose the sense of interconnectedness and belonging to nature and each other.

I want to help my folks β€”clients, readers, connections, etc.β€” and myself become aware of this, restore this connection, and improve their lives and our collective existence.

That’s it for today! Next week, you’ll need a dictionary. πŸ˜‰

With care,

Giada

Love the “Why does it matter to me?” test! In the past I’ve ended up with a list of values that weren’t my true values. I love that this question prompts you to explore a bit deeper to unearth what truly matters to you.

Yes! That’s why I think that just picking values from a list isn’t enough. We need to connect with them in a more meaningful way. πŸ™‚
