๐ŸŒฒ Giving Ourselves Room to Exhale, Not Solve

In today’s episode, I’m naming something I couldn’t quite put into words until recently: the sense of subtle bewilderment that many of us are living with right now. Between personal challenges, global crises, and the rising tensions in our countries, it makes sense that we feel lost.

I’ll share what helped my activist group and how this inspired a free gathering I’m hosting next week.

We won’t look for fixes. We’ll give ourselves room to release. If you feel called to exhale with others, I’ll hold the space.

๐ŸŒ— Join the free gathering

We’ll meet on Zoom on Thursday, August 6, at 11 AM Central Time.

TRANSCRIPT

[0:29] Hi there. How are things going in your world? Well, lately I have been sitting with a feeling I couldn’t quite name, you know. It took me a therapy session and my activist group’s weekly meeting to put my finger on it.

[0:49] Talking and listening helped me realize that I have been feeling lost. I have been feeling confused and, you know, out of sync with almost everything around me.

[1:02] And thinking about that, then I also realized that I’m not alone in this. I thought back to conversations and email exchanges and messages with business friends, with clients, with personal friends, and also with fellow activists. Using different words, they all pointed to this kind of sense of subtle bewilderment. So I looked inward once more and saw that. As a human being and as an activist, of course I have been feeling lost. I mean, think of everything that’s going on in the world. Plus, there’s a lot of personal stuff I am carrying. And then there’s what specifically happening here in Italy, my country, which is the rising fascism, the state violence, the increasing repression. While as a business owner, I have been feeling a bit disconnected from and confused about what my circle might need. Until I realized that if we are all feeling lost and confused because we are all experiencing very similar contexts, despite living miles away, right, we probably don’t know what we need.

[2:28] But what if we don’t need to know right now? What if we don’t need to know yet? See, what helped my activist group was sitting together to share how we were feeling. Quote unquote, just that. And listening to the group helped me name my feelings and also feel less alone and less powerless. At the end of that meeting, we decided to schedule another one to recenter, to reconnect with our vision, to plan next steps, but it’s going to happen at a different time. We didn’t conflate it with the open sharing moment. And that made me think about how we tend to approach challenges with the idea that we need to fix them right away. But sometimes we need space to sit with the challenge, to stay with what feels uncomfortable, to name it, to acknowledge it, so we can release it and let it compost.

[3:36] And when we do that in community, in a space where we feel safe, it can be a little easier and definitely more empowering. So I just thought, why don’t I hold a circle for us to share what feels heavy and release it into the universe? And I decided to host a free gathering next week. I will open a Zoom room and I will hold space for myself and anyone from this community who wants to join. We won’t look for solutions. We won’t plan next steps. We won’t try to fix anything. We will give ourselves space to exhale and release. And just so you know, clients, colleagues, and friends always tell me that somehow I make them feel safe. So if you feel called to do this release in a circle, I might be able to offer you the space that you need. The circle will open on Thursday, August 6th at 11 a.m. Central Time. So it’s going to be next week and we are going to be close to the last quarter moon, which is a great time to release. And you can sign up for free at the link in the show notes. I really hope to see you there.

[4:52] Okay, so this is my last audioletter before my break in August. They will be back in September and we will talk again then. In the meantime, I hope to see you next week to exhale together. Bye.
