Care is our strength, not kryptonite

Reimagining impact, prioritizing well-being, and dismantling the systems that drain us.

We have this conscious or unconscious idea that, to make an impact and change the world, we have to:

  • sacrifice ourselves,

  • conform to expectations and norms,

  • do more, give more, be more.

What if, instead, we could make an impact with care?

By giving ourselves the same care we have for our purpose, we wouldn’t rob it of our attention and energy. Rather, we would fuel it through our well-being.

Care is key to contributing to a better world, and caring for ourselves is an essential practice for building collective care.

If we’re exhausted and depleted, we won’t be able to care for anyone or anything else.

And, of course, we are. Most probably, we are unconsciously replicating towards ourselves what capitalism tells us is a norm: exploitation and extraction.

But how can we build the different world we envision using the same system we want to dismantle?

To that system, the fact that we are exhausted is a win.

It means we’ll end up quitting at some point.

It means we’ll end up isolated, disconnected, and with no forces to unite to tear it apart.

I believe a different way to make an impact exists and must be built with care. Which, to me, means:

  • To care for one’s needs and allow oneself to be well and live a fulfilling life.

  • To care reciprocally for each other’s needs and ensure everyone is well-sustained, feels good, and is ready to join forces.

  • To care for the collectivity of beings and the planet to create a more equitable, just, and joyful world.

Care is our strength, not the kryptonite.

We don’t burn out “because we care”.

We burn out because we try to practice care using the processes and norms of capitalism and other systems of oppression.

How does that resonate with you? I’d love to know! Hit reply or drop a comment below. 🙂

With care,
